One of the most common questions I get as a photographer is how do I pick the best photos to submit for sorority recruitment? Can you please help me select the best ones?
One of the perks for my senior portrait clients is having a large collection of portraits to pick from for their college sorority recruitment headshots.
I loved being involved in a college sorority and really enjoyed the recruitment process. We studied hundreds of girls, their portraits and recruited heavily for the next best pledge class!
I understand and know just what is needed to set you apart while picking your favorite images to submit.
Most sorority packets require a close-up headshot and a full length portrait in either a 4x6 or 5x7 format. (depending on the college). You’ll need one of each pose and you’ll submit that with your recommendation application, resume and letters of support in some cases.
Most colleges now accept digital photos so make sure you size the file in the specified dimensions and don't send in a huge file that's hard for them to upload and use. Remember they are receiving hundreds if not thousands of photos of girls. Make sure you include your name in the title of the file.
Here are four important things you need to know about submitting sorority headshots for recruitment.
1. Make sure your headshot represents the real you. Keep it simple and don’t choose anything over the top. Avoid hats, props and iconic locations and backgrounds. Solid, colorful clothing is timeless and flattering. The focus should be you. The simpler the better! They are interested in the “real” you.
2. Smiling is a must! Pick your best smile. This isn’t the time for edgy or dramatic portraits or anything too serious. These portraits are used for identification purposes and so they can welcome you by name when you visit their sorority house.
3. Pick a current portrait and one you’ve taken recently. The sorority girls will identify you by your photo so it should be an accurate image of you. (If your hair is short now, don’t submit one where it is long or possibly a different color.) You want them to recognize and connect with you when you arrive!
4. Avoid uniform portraits. This isn’t the time to reuse school or a team-related portrait. You’ll be able to list all of your activities on your application and resume but it's best to stay away from any type of uniform photo.
You don’t get a second chance to make a first impression so planning and preparing for your recruitment portraits is important! Do you need a headshot session for college sorority recruitment portraits? Contact me, I’d love to help you! www.delynnphotography.com, 832.483.0104
