While I love including lots of popular senior session props at Delynn Photography, I always strive to make each senior session personalized and different. Sometimes that means thinking outside the box and including different types of fun props while collaborating with my high school senior clients.
The following is a list of props that maybe you haven’t thought of that you might like to include in your senior portrait session to make it truly personal and creative:
1. Vintage Car or Bike
- For seniors with a love for cars or vintage style, posing with an old car or bicycle adds a cool, nostalgic vibe.
2. Fairy Lights
- Wrapping fairy lights around the subject or in the background adds a dreamy and whimsical effect, especially for evening or dusk shoots.
3. Skateboard or Roller Skates
- For active seniors or those who enjoy skating, these props can reflect their hobbies and create action shots.
4. Record Player or Vinyl Records
- For music lovers or those with a retro flair, a record player or vinyl records can add a vintage, nostalgic vibe to their photos.
5. Your Favorite Snack or Beverage as a Senior
- Snacks can make for a fun, relaxed portrait session that feels casual and authentic.
6. Your Favorite shirt or piece of jewelry
- What do you wear the most? Why not showcase it during your session?
7. Unique or Colorful Chair
- Using a prop like a chair allows for creative posing options, giving the portraits an editorial, stylized feel.
8. Polaroid Camera or Photo Strip
- Incorporating instant cameras or printed photo strips from past moments adds a personal touch, referencing memories they want to hold on to.
9. Guitar, Case or Band Poster
- For musicians, their instrument and instrument’s case or even a band poster can symbolize their love for music and creativity.
10. Telescope or Compass
- For science lovers or those with a passion for exploration, these items can hint at their future aspirations and curiosity.
11. Old Family Heirloom
- Including a cherished family heirloom, like a pocket watch or a vintage piece of jewelry, can add sentimental value and uniqueness to their portraits.
12. High School Memorabilia
- Trophies, awards, or special items like the school mascot plush can reflect the accomplishments and memories they want to celebrate.
13. Graduation Year Numbers
- Large numbers representing their graduation year can make for a bold and celebratory backdrop. Light up or balloon numbers can make it special.
14. Travel Props
- A suitcase, passport, or globe can symbolize their adventurous spirit and post-graduation plans.
15. Books or Graduation Tassel
- For academic-focused students, stacks of favorite books or the graduation tassel can symbolize dedication and future goals.
16. Chalkboard or Letter Board
- With customizable messages, seniors can write their name, favorite quotes, or future goals to display in their portraits.
17. Umbrella
- A colorful or transparent umbrella adds depth to outdoor shoots and can give the photos a romantic or artistic feel, especially in rain or sun flare.
